What is Offmodel?

A local control layer for AI-assisted project work.

AI proposes. You decide what becomes project state. Offmodel keeps supported proposed work separate from the project's reviewed current state until you accept it.

The project keeps the durable state.

Offmodel keeps reviewed project identity, revision, objective, decisions and next action with the local project instead of treating an AI conversation as the current record.

AI sessions remain replaceable work surfaces. The project records what has actually been accepted.

Why not just a Markdown folder?

Markdown keeps content readable and portable, and Offmodel uses Markdown for its supported document workflow. A folder alone does not distinguish current content from an AI proposal or record who accepted a change.

Offmodel adds project identity, revision and base-content checks, current-versus-proposed review, explicit acceptance, stale-state blocking, atomic application and a receipt around supported files.

The current Workbench document flow is limited to existing, project-relative UTF-8 Markdown files up to 2 MiB. Protected project authority files cannot be edited through that flow.

  1. Choose a supported documentCopy or export selected content to an external AI. Offmodel does not automatically upload the project folder.
  2. Import the proposed workThe AI response becomes a candidate. It does not replace the current file when it is imported.
  3. Review current and proposed contentAccept or reject the proposal. Before an accepted change is written, Offmodel checks the base content and revision again.
  4. Record the accepted transitionA supported accepted change is written atomically, advances the project revision and leaves a project receipt.

If revision 12 is no longer current.

You review an AI-generated change against revision 12. Before it is applied, the project changes. Offmodel detects that the proposal is based on older state and stops without writing it.

Reload the current state and review the proposal again. This is a freshness check; it does not decide whether the content is true or correct.

Window Switch: verify a separate handoff.

Window Switch prepares a bounded handoff for continuing in another AI session. The project-side read-only verifier exposes and checks the project identity, revision, checkpoint, objective and exact next action.

Verification does not grant permission. “Verification received” opens a separate acknowledgement plan, and a person must still review and confirm it before project state changes.

Local-first does not mean automatic upload.

Offmodel does not automatically upload a project folder to an AI. If you manually paste text into an external AI service, that text leaves your computer and is governed by that service.

Offmodel does not control arbitrary edits made by external AI tools and does not prove that an AI understood the project. It controls only the supported document and handoff workflows inside Offmodel.

Change AI tools without changing the authority.

Offmodel is intended for people working on research, writing, software, consulting and other long-running projects with more than one AI session or tool.

Because the reviewed state remains with the project, you can continue with the same AI or another one without treating the previous conversation as project authority.

Keep the work. Change the AI.
